Daily and Weekly Programs

The following are free with Museum admission. This schedule is subject to change: check with Admissions Desk to confirm: 541-382-4754, ext. 271.

Daily Programs - Fall and Winter

11 am and 1 pm:   Birds of Prey Talk: Get eye-to-eye with a bird of prey. Learn about these species' fascinating behaviors and adaptations in High Desert ecosystems. 

11 am to 3 pm:  Living History at the 1904 Miller Family Ranch and Sawmill: (weekends only through April) Enter the year 1904 and join the Miller family in tending the garden, cross-cut sawing, and working at the mill. Chat about current topics such as President Roosevelt, women's suffrage and Bend's population approaching 500.

2:15 pm:   Otter Talk: (excluding Sundays) River otters love to swim, romp and play. Meet a river otter at our pond habitat and discover these animals' role in the environment. At the Autzen Otter Exhibit.

2:45 pm:   Spirit of the West Exhibit Tours:  (excluding Sundays) Take a guided journey through a Native American rock shelter, fur trader encampment, silver mine, the Oregon Trail, and an 1885 settlement town. Explore how the High Desert changed dramatically in the 19th century. If you can't make this guided tour, an audio tour is available free at Admissions.

Ongoing Weekly Programs (school year only)

10 am to 2 pm, Mon-Fri: The Otter Den September through May
A fun, creative play-and learning space. Children ages 2-5 and their parents. Additional charge - see Admissions or Otter Den page for details.

10:30 am Tuesdays: Totally Touchable Tales - September through May
Storytelling that opens preschoolers' eyes, ears, and hearts to the natural and cultural wonders of the High Desert, with activities such as puppet play and quick craft projects for ages two to five.

12:30 - close:  Wild Wednesdays - September through May
Visitors ages 7 to 12 and their parents will discover obscure parts of the Museum on weekly self-guided scavenger hunts. Use a puzzle map to find all the hidden treasure chests and get a Museum prize. Themes of the hunt change each week.
