Here’s a peek at the High Desert Museum achieving its mission:

  • a 10-year-old girl is looking into the eyes of McKenzie, the great horned owl.
  • toddlers are listening to a story about a bobcat, and meet one close-up.
  • a fifth-grade class is hearing about the trials of the Oregon Trail firsthand from a frontier settler.
  • a lifelong learner is gaining insight into contemporary Native American culture through art inspired by priceless    artifacts.

The troubled economy of the last year did not keep the Museum from achieving its mission, every day. The Museum took strategic action, and spent less while offering more. The demand for our programs has increased, but donations have declined.

TortoiseThis year the Museum has:

  • provided educational support to the Redmond School District after budget cuts forced it to a four-day week.
  • created a new learning discovery preschool program serving three- and four-year-olds.
  • welcomed for free the hundreds of family members of the Working Wonders Children’s Museum in Bend, which closed in October due to lack of funds.
  • opened nine new innovative, hands-on exhibits about science, wildlife and cultural art and history
  • created a new home for a young barn owl named Auggie, one of more than 100 animals at the Museum that are injured or have other disabilities and cannot be released into the wild.

Your donation will help build on this important work. And, giving is easy.
