The High Desert Museum is pleased to present the exhibition Art of the West, a fundraising event featuring fine art depictions of the western region of the United States by contemporary artists. Art of the West complements the Museum's signature fundraising event - the High Desert Rendezvous, which celebrates its 28th anniversary this year.

Notification for acceptance: Monday, June 12, 2017 at 5:00 pm
Art delivered to the Museum by: Friday, July 7, 2017 at 5:00 pm
Opening reception with artists and sponsors: Thursday, July 27, 2017 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Exhibition opens: Friday, July 28, 2017 - August 26, 2017
Pick-up unsold artwork by: Monday, September 18, 2017
RULES FOR ENTRY
Art submitted for Art of the West must be original and completed within the last three (3) years. Up to four (4) works may be submitted for consideration by each artist. If sending a submission by email, please send one image and entry form per email. A submission does not constitute an acceptance of the work for exhibition.
Eligible Media: Oil, watercolor, acrylic, gouache, pastel, pen & ink, charcoal, etching, woodcut/block, stone lithograph, serigraph, photography, bronze/metal sculpture, ceramics as sculpture, wood carving as sculpture, stone sculpture, fiber/textile arts, basketry, beadwork or glass.
Ineligible Works: Fine art prints are allowed, but not giclées. Crafts, wearable art, digital art, wet paintings, electrical works, works needing special hooks or unusual installation requirements and any work considered unstable or in poor condition are not acceptable.
Size Limitations: Our collectors have a preference for small- and mid-size pieces and we can accept pieces with dimensions up to 48” x 72”. Maximum weight for sculpture or framed artwork is 50 pounds.
Installation Requirements: Two-dimensional works must be framed and completely prepared for hanging with all hardware attached. Glass or Plexiglas must cover works on paper.
Promotion: By submitting artworks, the artist gives the High Desert Museum permission to publish and exhibit such artworks for publicity and promotional purposes. Artwork(s) may be photographed and reproduced on the Museum's website and related publications.
Terms of Sale: A 50% commission will be retained by the High Desert Museum on all artworks sold.
Type of Sale: The event is a silent auction, wall sale that opens with a minimum bid based on the declared value. We will offer a buy-it-now option throughout the exhibition period for the fixed-price (which is typically 200% of the declared value). The same artist commission percentage applies regardless of sale price or with the added buy-it-now option. The opening bid must not exceed the declared value.
Shipping: Shipping the artwork(s) to the Museum is the responsibility of the artist. Any artwork that is not sold will be returned at the expense of the artist. In the event that an artist does not arrange for the return of the work within thirty (30) business days from the closing date for the exhibition, the artist forfeits the piece to the Museum.
Liability: Shipped artwork(s) must be sent in substantial, reusable packing materials. While the High Desert Museum intends to safeguard works of art against loss or damage while in the Museum's possession, it is agreed that the Museum will not be held liable for any loss or damage resulting from any of its acts or omissions or those of its employees while in the possession of and in transit of the said property, except for gross negligence. Artist shall, at his/her expense, procure and maintain such insurance as desired against all risk or loss or damage to said property. Entry into this exhibition constitutes agreement to all conditions set forth in this prospectus.
Substitutions will not be allowed. Only the pieces selected through the jury process will be allowed in the show. Entries without a completed entry form will not be accepted. Any work submitted that has not been selected will be returned at artist’s cost.
Entry Form: Please complete a separate entry form for every piece and include a short 50-100 word biography that can be edited. Submissions will be accepted:
