We are joining forces with Oregon Natural Resources Education Program (ONREP) in their upcoming workshops and events for teachers.

ODS: Outdoor School, Ecology of Fire and Soil
Friday, January 18, 2019
9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Location: High Desert Museum
Have you ever wondered how to connect Outdoor School experiences with your class curriculum? This hands-on one day workshop for teachers will provide curriculum to enhance your students’ outdoor school experience. You will participate in activities that will prepare and extend their knowledge as the lead up to and return from outdoor school. This workshop will focus on soil stories, decomposers and finish with an investigation into fire ecology and comparing it to your own school yard. Please be prepared to go outside, in any weather. This workshop is offered at no cost to Oregon educators.

Greening STEM: Bridging the Environment and STEM Education

8:30 am – 3:00 pm
Location: Skyliner Lodge, Bend
The environment is a compelling context for teaching STEM as teachers can tap into real-world challenges that provide relevant and hands-on opportunities to apply STEM concepts. This training will share strategies for integrating technology and math into outdoor learning experiences and ideas for engaging students in engineering and design projects that address local environmental issues. The training will build off of the STEM Connect program, a partnership between High Desert Museum and Buckingham Elementary. Designed for 3rd – 8th grade educators. The full training includes 2 additional evening sessions.
