Thanks to all of the participants who joined us for the Vulture Venture 5K and Kids’ Dash and to all of the sponsors that made the event possible.
The High Desert Museum is excited to host our annual Lonza Vulture Venture 5K Trail/Walk and Kids’ Dash on Saturday, June 16, 2018. 5K participants will experience a unique behind-the-scenes glimpse of the Museum on a course made primarily of dirt roads and trails. Following the race, guests will enjoy a post-event celebration with music, food, and beverages (including Bloody Mary’s). Museum admission on race day will be included with registration. Awards will be issued to the top three overall male and female finishers in each age bracket: under 8, 8-11, 12-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. All finishers will receive a head band and pint glass.

The post-run celebration also includes a Lonza-Bend tent with STEM activities and demonstrations that cover the following scientific principles:
Phases of matter — transitions between solid, liquid and gas will be aided by liquid Nitrogen.
Non-Newtonian fluids — a fluid with variable viscosity under stress is demonstrated with Oobleck on a speaker.
Vortexes — smoke ring cannons display how a fluid can rotate around an axis.
Microscopy — participants can test their skills by guessing the source of highly magnified images.
