A Typical Day at High Desert Museum Camps

At Kids Camp, each day is designed to balance learning, creativity, play and community building. Here is an example of a week of camp:

  • Free Play: Unstructured play is available each morning during drop-off and each afternoon during pick-up.
  • First Day Welcome: Camp begins with activities that help campers connect—such as icebreakers, name games and creating group agreements.
  • Engaging Lessons & Activities: Campers participate in various activities throughout the day such as museum exploration, hands-on science projects, scavenger hunts, story time, arts and crafts, watching short educational films and other experiences that inspire curiosity and discovery.
  • Snack and Lunchtime: A time to eat food from home and enjoy read-aloud stories or opportunities for campers to socialize and build friendships.
  • Outdoor Recess: Recess takes place in an open area at the Museum or at the Pinecone Playscape. Location is weather and space dependent.
  • Quiet Time: Campers can recharge through calm activities such as building with Legos, coloring, watching a short calming video or simply resting.
  • Animal Encounters: Most weeks (depending on wildlife availability and week length), campers enjoy a special visit from one of our animal ambassadors.
  • End-of-Week Celebration: The week concludes with extended outdoor play (weather and air quality dependent) and group games to celebrate campers’ accomplishments and connections.

Standard day: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
